Jim Hendry, founder of Iapetus Geoscience is an experienced and high-performing geoscientist who has held Principal level roles in the upstream oil and gas industry and in academia, is a Profesional Member of the Institute of Geologists of Ireland (PGeo) and Member of the European Federation of Geologists (EurGeol). He combines extensive geological knowledge with technical expertise in sedimentology and reservoir characterisation and is a recognised authority on carbonate geology. Equally at home with regional geological synthesis or microscale rock characterisation, he seeks to integrate, analyse and interpret diverse information and data into clear narratives and practical recommendations that address business needs and equip managers to make the right decisions.
Jim has worked in technical project lead and support or specialist roles, always pursuing a collaborative approach that brings teams together to encourage and learn from each other. His work encompasses play fairway definition, lead and prospect maturation, reservoir characterisation, single and multi-well reviews, problem solving consultancy, and applied research. He has delivered intensive work on the prospectivity of offshore Jamaica, Mauritania and the Norwegian Barents Sea with Tullow Oil, extensive reservoir characterisation studies on the giant Karachaganak field in Kazakhstan with BG Group and on several UK North Sea fields for BG and Elf UK, as well as technical studies supporting exploration and development projects in 35 countries.
Jim's organisational and leadership experience includes running large overseas field courses and facilitating multinational, multifunctional joint venture groups. He has extensive experience in presenting to managers, regulatory authorities and research organisations, and in writing and editing technical reports, research papers and field guides. He is also an experienced mentor, trainer and lecturer who seeks to share his curiosity and enthusiasm for geoscience.
